Join us in a discussion with women who have navigated to successful careers as business owners and senior leaders in A/E/C firms. They'll share the opportunities, challenges and inspirations that have shaped their career path.

    Pamela Neckar, Principal & Project Coach |  Bostwick Design Partnership

    President and Founding Member of Cogence Alliance

    Pamela J. Neckar is Principal at Bostwick Design Partnership and for 20 years has directed the financial strategy of the firm. She has a bachelor of business administration with a major in finance, as well as, a Master of Business Administration. Her role is not limited to financial leadership, but includes developing the human capital of the firm through professional development. She has created a firm culture that thrives on clear, open communication and highly transparent financial information, with 4 locations across the country. Combining her financial management training and knowledge of the design and construction industry, she has created Team Development, a unique and specialized method of project coaching.

    Pam has proven that project success comes through teamwork. She is an accomplished Project Coach, consulting owners on achieving superior team performance. In addition to creating a common goals, she consults on contractual terms which link performance to financial compensation.  Her Team Development process has resulted in enhanced project outcomes including higher owner satisfaction, greater financial success and a positive legacy.

    Her reach goes beyond Bostwick Design as Pam serves as the founding President of Cogence Alliance.  Cogence is an Alliance comprised of Owners, Architects, Engineers, Construction Managers, Trade Contractors and Other industry affiliates whose mission is to be a resource and advocate for improved project delivery.  www.cogence.org

    In 2011, she was named to Building Design + Construction’s “40 under 40”.

    Karen Dethloff, BS, MS, MBA, CHFM, FASHE, Vice President, Facilities Management  |  The MetroHealth System

    Karen Dethloff has worked at The MetroHealth System for over 13 years and is responsible for facilities management, plant operations, construction and utilities.  Previously, she served in several operations and construction rolls at the former Meridia Huron Hospital and as Case Western Reserve University’s Director of Construction Administration, where she was involved in more than $450 million of new construction and renovation projects. 

    Mrs. Dethloff has also been an active member of the American Society for Healthcare Engineering, serving on the ASHE Board and numerous national committees, as well as leadership positions with the Northern Ohio Society for Healthcare Engineering.  She is also an ASHE Fellow member and a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager.  Karen currently serves as a Board Member of the Ohio Society for Healthcare Facilities Management and as a member of ASHE’s Recognition Task Force.

    Karen earned her B.S. degree at The Ohio State University, her M.S. in Electrical Engineering at Cleveland State University and her M.B.A. from Case Western Reserve University.

    Jennifer Storey, Principal  |  Stantec Architecture

    Jennifer is a client advocacy champion who brings new ideas to the table from a ground level understanding of healthcare design.  She works hand-in-hand with clients, owners and her integrated services team to continually stay one step ahead of healthcare market trends and future technology. Jennifer is a Principal at Stantec Architecture and the Healthcare Sector Lead for Ohio. She believes that good design should permeate a project at all scales, from the macro scale of master planning and site design to the micro scale of the final construction details. Her experience spans all phases of project development, concept design and programming to schematic design through construction document and construction administration services. She enjoys working closely with clients as part of a design team, coordinating differing talents to synthesize varying client needs into a final successful solution.

    Anna Dodson, VP of Business Development  |  A.M. Higley

    Ms. Dodson received her Associate of Arts in Applied Business from Cuyahoga Community College in 2000. That same year, she began her career in the AEC industry as a Design Representative. She later continued her career as an Account Executive in the industry; following promotion to Sales Manager. Anna joined The Albert M. Higley Co. in 2017 as Vice President of Business Development. Anna is an active member of the Cleveland and greater Northeast Ohio community; involved with such organizations as Greater Cleveland Partnership, NAIOP, and Cleveland Bridge Builders.

    Melissa Fliegel , Associate Principal |  Van Auken Akins LLC

    Associate Principal Melissa A. Fliegel, who has been with VAA her entire career, is a Registered Architect with over 20 years of project design experience. Melissa has served on a variety of project types, including higher education facilities, K-12 schools, healthcare facilities, recreation, commercial offices and public spaces. Melissa has proven her ability to work through complex problems as they arise, effectively lead the architectural design efforts of the team, review work, incorporate feedback and remain committed to our client’s mission. Melissa is a graduate of Kent State University and Chair of the Cleveland Heights Architectural Board of Review.

    Gina Casalinova, Owner's Representative  |  Cleveland Clinic

    Gina has served as an Owner’s Representative in the Office of Construction Management since 2009. In this role, she provides leadership throughout the entire timeline of capital and infrastructure projects. She works with various Users Groups and Institutes throughout the Cleveland Clinic System to ensure a successful outcome for patients and caregivers. The recent incorporation of Lean principals into the construction process at the Cleveland Clinic has reinforced the culture of respect and trust.

    Ariane Kirkpatrick, Owner & President  |  AKA Team

    Entrepreneurship was ingrained in Ariane at an early age. The year 1969 made quite an impression on Ariane Kirkpatrick. She vividly remembers being five years old and boycotting the neighborhood McDonald's with her family because African-Americans were banned from owning franchises. She attempted several businesses from a copy and printing business, restaurant and residential rehab business. In between her time as a business owner Ariane was the Chief of Housing for the City of Warrensville Heights Building Department where she received several accolades for her commitment to the housing industry, as well as performing building inspections for commercial and residential buildings.

    Ariane’s dream was to always go into business with her family. That dream came true in 2007 when her sister and brother-in-law became franchise owners of ServiceMaster by Davis, a cleaning service. ServiceMaster had the honor of servicing President Barack Obama's Campaign for Change airplane early one morning in August 2008 during the campaign. A call for business later in the month from Joe Biden's crew proved it was a job well done. ServiceMaster by Davis was recognized in 2008, along with Wal-Mart and General Colin Powell by the National Urban League with the Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

    In 2009, Ariane made the decision to start yet another endeavor which has proven to be successful. The AKA Team has worked on several projects such as the Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland Medical Mart Convention Center, Flats East Bank, CMHA Administration Building and many more. Ariane had the opportunity to sit with President Obama at the Winning the Future Forum held in Cleveland and discuss obstacles that affect small businesses. With the advice of the President, Ariane has found ways to increase her business. Ariane is very involved in the spirit of community and is a true lover of the City of Cleveland. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies at Cleveland State University and is alumni of Cuyahoga Community College, where she was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa and a proud Warrensville Heights Tiger.
